World Environemnt Day at The Óir House

Jun 05, 2026Óir Tonics

Today, June 5th 2026, is World Environemnt Day. This year’s theme is “Inspired By Nature. For Climate. For Our Future”

At Óir Tonics sustainability and environmental impact are at the core of our values, implemented in ways such as; a zero waste Moss Boss Tonic production, only using wholefood ingredients and organic farms where possible, reducign plastic waste with packaging and shipment, and more.

We want to take this one step further, for Ballyvaughan, our community and our future.

The Óir House will be taking on the Burren Eco Tourism initiative of “ Adopting A Hedgerow”. Adopt a Hedgerow is a project developed by the Burren Ecotourism Network. It was set up a part of the conservation activities of the network that serve to protect and conserve the natural and cultural heritage of the Burren. The activity sees the businesses maintain a stretch of roadside, engage with the local community to collect litter, monitor and report dumping and deal with invasive species.

The Burren is one of Ireland’s most unique and precious landscapes, internationally recognised for its rich biodiversity, rare habitats, and distinctive limestone terrain. It is home to an extraordinary variety of native plants, wildlife, and cultural heritage that have been shaped by generations of careful stewardship. As a business rooted in this remarkable region, we believe it is our responsibility to help protect and preserve this environment for future generations. Through our participation in the Burren Ecotourism Network's Adopt a Hedgerow initiative, The Óir House is committed to playing an active role in safeguarding our local landscape, supporting biodiversity, maintaining the beauty of our roadsides, and encouraging community involvement in environmental conservation. By working together, we can help ensure that the Burren continues to thrive as a place of natural wonder, sustainability, and inspiration for generations to come.
